Sundae School Nurse

In bed
with tomato soup
and grill cheese
watching t.v.
I slow train slog
through autumnal virus.
Pull down the nightshade
and call for
the sundae school nurse.
Just sit with me awhile
and forget about the rain
and forget about the dark.
The world is full of simple joys
and tiny pleasures.
I extend my life's invitation
to share them all with you.

Thanks kindly, friends. I got well and went out into the evening to have spaghetti. My short stories need focus. I'm working towards that goal with some narratives. Hopefully by the end of the winter and the economy, I'll have something to daylight!

I look forward to reading them. When you're ready. Take this as a mild prod with a barbeque skewer with some Australian prawns thrown onto it.

My spelling word for post-a-comment is ekkry

I'd recommend Australian novelist Peter Carey's short stories, primarily his 'The Fat man in history' anthology of 1974. He writes these delightful, perky stories that take on bizarre, utterly surreal twists that hang with you long after the book's been squeezed off to the shelves to dust.

One of these stories, 'Crabs', inspired an aussie cult-classic film, 'Dead End Drive-in' from 1985.

It's sort of your style. I think you'd really like it and draw some inspiration from it.

err, the end of winter is 5 months away innit? the end of the economy is likely to be 5 days at the rate of freefall we've been prithee to witness...um make that 5 'woking' days!
